About the Hotline

What is the Business Loan Hotline?

A phone-first business funding service for New Zealand business owners. You ring or request a call back, a lending specialist talks through your situation, and we match you with a lending partner whose criteria fit.

Is the Business Loan Hotline a bank?

No. We don't lend our own money. Loans are provided by our lending partners, subject to their approval criteria. Our specialists help you find the right one and guide the application through.

Where are you based?

Our office is at Level 8, 139 Quay Street, Auckland 1010. Because we work by phone, we help business owners anywhere in New Zealand.

How do I contact the Hotline?

Ring 09 875 4577 (+64 9 875 4577 from overseas), or request a call back online and a lending specialist will ring you.

Does it cost anything to talk to you?

No. Enquiring is free and takes about 60 seconds. Any costs of a loan are set out in the loan offer before you sign.

Will enquiring affect my credit score?

No. A credit check only happens later, with your authorisation, when a specific lender assesses a formal application.

The funding itself

What types of business funding can you help with?

Property-secured business loans from $20,000 to $1m, and unsecured business loans and lines of credit sized to your turnover.

What property can secure a business loan?

New Zealand property the borrower or a supporting party already owns — a home, rental or investment property, commercial property or land — as a first or second mortgage, even if there's already a mortgage on it.

Do I need financial statements or tax returns?

Not for the initial assessment of a property-secured loan. Unsecured loans and lines of credit are mainly assessed on turnover and recent bank statements.

How much can I borrow?

Property-secured loans range from $20,000 to $1m depending on equity and purpose. Unsecured amounts are based on turnover and bank statements.

What are your interest rates?

We don't publish rate cards, because every loan is priced on the individual situation — security, amount, purpose, trading and credit history. We look across our lending partners for the sharpest option available for your circumstances and explain the total cost before you commit.

How long are the loans for?

Property-secured and unsecured business loans are typically short to medium term, structured around what the money is for and how it will be repaid.

Can I repay early?

Often, yes, but terms vary between lenders and loans. Early repayment terms are set out in the loan offer, and we'll point them out before you sign.

Who can apply

Who can apply for business funding through the Hotline?

Sole traders, companies, partnerships and trusts, for business purposes only. We don't arrange personal or consumer loans.

How long do I need to have been trading?

Unsecured loans and lines of credit are usually for businesses trading 6+ months. Property-secured loans are assessed mainly on the property and your plan, so newer businesses may still have options.

Can I get a business loan with bad credit?

Often, yes. Bad credit, defaults and arrears are considered case by case for property-secured loans, and some unsecured lenders consider weaker credit.

Can I get funding if the bank declined me?

Frequently. Non-bank lenders assess different things — property equity or recent bank statements — so a bank decline isn't necessarily a barrier.

Can I borrow to pay IRD?

Yes. Paying GST, PAYE or income tax is a business purpose, and property-secured loans can refinance or pay out existing IRD debt.

Speed and process

How fast can I get the money?

Unsecured decisions are sometimes made the same day. Property-secured loans can in some cases be funded within 24 hours of approval; the steps before approval depend on the property and how quickly documents are signed.

What documents will I need?

Usually photo ID, business details and recent business bank statements; for property-secured loans, property details. Your specialist will tell you exactly what's needed for your situation.

Do I need a lawyer?

For property-secured loans, a lawyer registers the mortgage, and anyone giving security or a guarantee is normally required to get independent legal advice.

Will I need to give a personal guarantee?

Often, if the borrower is a company. Your specialist will explain any guarantee terms before you commit.

What happens to my information?

We use it to talk to you about business funding and, with your authorisation, share it with lending partners to assess an application. Our privacy policy explains the details and your rights under the Privacy Act 2020.

Didn't see your question?

Ask it on the phone. A lending specialist will answer it straight — enquiring is free and doesn't affect your credit score.
